Game Login Not Working? How to Fix Sign-In Errors on Mobile

Fix game login not working on mobile: sign-in form showing a password error

A game that will not sign in is one of the more frustrating phone problems, partly because the error messages are usually useless. In practice almost all sign-in failures come from a small set of causes. Work through them in this order, because the early ones are both the most common and the quickest to rule out.

6 Club login not working?

If you can’t get into your 6 Club account, start with the basics: type your password by hand, wait for the OTP countdown before resending, and clear your browser cache. Step-by-step 6 Club login instructions and fixes for the 8 most common errors are on our homepage.

1. Establish whether it is you or the game

Before changing anything on your phone, check whether the game’s servers are down. Look at the developer’s official social account or status page, and at the recent reviews on the store listing, where a widespread outage shows up within minutes.

If it is an outage, nothing you do to your phone will help, and reinstalling the game at that moment risks losing a local save for no reason. Wait.

2. Check the obvious connection issues

  • Toggle airplane mode on and off to force the network to reconnect
  • Try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and the reverse. A captive portal Wi-Fi network, common in offices and cafés, breaks game logins while browsing still works
  • Turn off any VPN. This is a very common cause; some games block VPN connections outright, and others simply time out
  • If you are on a work or campus network, the ports the game needs may be blocked. Test on mobile data to confirm

3. Check the clock

An incorrect device time breaks authentication, because the security tokens involved are time-sensitive. This causes sign-in failures that look mysterious.

Set Settings, System, Date and time to automatic on Android, or Settings, General, Date and Time, Set Automatically on iPhone. Make sure the time zone is automatic too.

4. Sort out which account you are actually using

This is the single most common cause of “my progress is gone” reports. The progress is usually not gone; the game is signed into a different account from the one that holds it.

Most mobile games link progress to one of:

  • Google Play Games, on Android
  • Apple Game Center, on iOS
  • Facebook
  • A developer-specific account with an email and password
  • A guest or device-local account with no login at all

If your phone has more than one Google account, a game can silently pick the wrong one. Check which account the game is using inside its own settings, and check Play Games: open the Play Games app, tap your profile, and confirm which account is active.

Guest accounts are the genuinely risky case. Progress in a guest account is typically tied to the installation, not to you. Clearing app data, uninstalling, or changing phones can lose it permanently. If a game offers to link progress to an account, do it on the first day rather than after two hundred hours.

5. Clear the local mess, in increasing order of risk

Do these in order, and stop as soon as it works.

  1. **Force stop the game.** Settings, Apps, the game, Force stop. Reopen.
  2. **Restart the phone.** Genuinely fixes a surprising proportion of sign-in failures.
  3. **Update the game and the store.** Old client versions get locked out after a server-side change. Also update Google Play Services and the Play Games app on Android.
  4. **Clear the cache, not the data.** Settings, Apps, the game, Storage, Clear cache. This is safe and does not touch your progress.
  5. **Clear data, only with a linked account.** This resets the app to a fresh install and will destroy an unlinked local save. Do it only once you have confirmed your progress is attached to an account you can sign back into.
  6. **Reinstall.** Same warning. Confirm the account link first.

6. Fix the platform layer

If several games fail to sign in, the problem is the platform rather than any one game.

**Android:**

  • Update Google Play Services: Settings, Apps, see all apps, Google Play Services, and check for an update through the store
  • Clear the cache of Google Play Services and the Play Games app
  • Remove and re-add the Google account: Settings, Passwords and accounts. Note what else uses that account before removing it
  • Confirm Play Games is not signed into a different profile than you expect

**iPhone:**

  • Settings, Game Center, and confirm the correct Apple Account is signed in
  • Sign out of Game Center and back in
  • Check that Game Center is not restricted under Settings, Screen Time, Content and Privacy Restrictions

7. Rule out restrictions you forgot about

  • Screen Time or Family Link limits can block a game at the exact moment a daily limit expires, and the resulting error often looks like a login failure
  • Data Saver or background data restrictions can prevent the initial authentication call
  • A restricted battery setting can stop a game communicating in the background
  • Parental controls on the store can block an update the game now requires

When to contact support, and what to send

If none of the above works, the developer’s support channel is the only remaining option. It is listed on the store page under the developer’s name.

Send, in one message:

  • Your in-game player ID or user ID, which is usually visible in the game’s settings even when you are signed out. Take a screenshot of it now, while you can see it
  • The exact error text or code, as a screenshot
  • Your phone model, OS version and the game version
  • What you have already tried, so they do not send you the standard checklist
  • Proof of purchase if you have ever spent money, which frequently moves an account recovery along

Be patient with response times, and do not create a second account in the meantime; duplicate accounts complicate recovery.

How to avoid the problem entirely

  • Link progress to a real account on the first day you install a game, not later
  • Note which account you linked it to. A screenshot of the game’s account screen costs nothing
  • Screenshot your player ID and keep it somewhere you will find again
  • Turn on the game’s cloud save if it has one
  • Before changing phones, open each game you care about, confirm the account link, and let it sync while on Wi-Fi

One thing worth stating plainly

Quick checklist

  1. Is the server down? Check before touching anything
  2. Toggle airplane mode; try the other connection; turn off the VPN
  3. Set date and time to automatic
  4. Confirm which account the game is signed into
  5. Force stop, restart, update, clear cache
  6. Clear data or reinstall only with a confirmed account link
  7. Update or reset Google Play Services and Play Games, or Game Center
  8. Check Screen Time, Family Link and data restrictions

Frequently asked questions

Why can I not sign in to my game?

The usual causes are a server outage, a captive-portal Wi-Fi network, an active VPN, an incorrect device clock, or the game being signed into a different account from the one holding your progress. Check whether the servers are down before changing anything on your phone.

Does clearing app data fix login problems?

Sometimes, but it is dangerous. Clearing data resets the app to a fresh install and destroys an unlinked local save permanently. Clear the cache first, which is safe, and only clear data once you have confirmed your progress is linked to an account you can sign back into.

Why does my game say my progress is gone?

Most often the game is signed into a different account, not that the progress was deleted. Phones commonly have more than one Google account, and a game can pick the wrong one silently. Check the account inside the game’s own settings before doing anything else.

Can a VPN stop a game from loading?

Yes, frequently. Some games block VPN connections outright and others simply time out. If a game will not sign in, turning the VPN off is one of the first things to try.
